“I think a number of the leaders are, whether you like it or not, in the hip-hop generation. And when they understand enough, they’ll do wonders. I count on them”,
Author Maya Angelou once said.
Hip hop has become the foundation of a generation seeking for truth. To me, hip hop is a whole other world that I am craving to discover. Though I was not born into the hip hop generation, I am open to learning and acquiring knowledge of the subject. This blog is dedicated to the every day findings of the historical, social, and cultural markings that hip hop has engraved in my life. This is a journey, a way for me to truly study and enjoy hip hop. From an academic perspective, hip hop paves a way for me to understand American society and what it has become. Through analysis of various works in African American studies, sociology, history, and digital story telling I will critically analyze the hip hop generation and culture through my perspective and experience. This blog if a way to journal the every day hip hop influences found in art, culture, fashion, and music. I named this blog “A Hip Hop Generasian” because by embracing my identity as an Asian-American student involved away from the hip hop generation I will be able to open my mind and acquire my new knowledge of hip hop. My goal is to understand the discourses within the study of hip hop from an outsider’s experience. This is my outlet and journal to document my study of hip hop.
